Today as I was doing some shopping in the supermarket, I heard some people calling out ‘Chor Chor*’ and running fast. You know, this is my first real life experience of seeing people run behind a thief calling ‘Chor Chor’ , I have seen these scene only in Hindi movies.
Anyways, from the people around I found out that this thief snatched Rs.5000/- from a youngster’s hand. And this youngster is not a working professional but a student. So it is obvious that, 5000 bucks is a big loss for him. I just pray that, that guy gets his money back.
This incident actually brought back memories of my primary school days. Every evening after school, I used to come back home with my seniors, [who are like, some 7 to 8 years elder than me] in public transport. On one such day, I saw 3 guys sitting pretty close at the last seat. One guy sitting at one corner was constantly patting his pocket, the other 2 guys were sitting Bindaas (coolly) beside him. As I was half-way to my stop, I saw the guy sitting at the other corner putting his hand in the pocket of this guy, who was patting his pocket periodically. What this guy took out was money, and since I was only some 7to 8 years old, I wasn’t sure whether that was a theft! I did not tell any one about it, while on the bus. When I got down, I said it my seniors and I got royal blastings for not telling to the conductor about it, if not the conductor atleast some of them, who would passed on the message and would have helped in preventing this guy being robbed. After all, it was in a moving bus- he sure won’t risk his life by jumping out of bus to escape less harmer beltings!
I was small then, maybe less smart, but that’s not what bothers me now – it is, having that scene fresh in my mind, where that guy pats his pocket after the theft and not realizing that his pocket was empty then.
*Chor = theif
