Dell or First Security....HELP!

Job dilemma again! Please help with any options or suggestions.

I've been looking for a core mechanical job since July this year. Sent a million applications, called another zillion but none of them have vacancies for Mechanical freshers. I couldn't even get an interview experience because there was none to attend.

So I thought of joining a BPO...till I get my core job. So I attended Dell Walk-in last week and got in for Technical Support. They asked me to join from 21st September (i.e., coming Monday). This company is hell strict about quitting without notice and completing probationary period. If I quit they will blacklist for ever for any position in Dell. So...if I join Dell, then I shall not think of any job in the period of 6-8 months.

I got a call today from a company called "First Security" which is a gulf based company and have started their operations in India (Hyderabad) 3 months back. They are into making airport baggage scanner, CCTV, metal detectors etc.,
My job is to have everything about baggage scanners right from maintenance to repair to everything about it on my finger tips at the end of the training which is 6 months.

If this company was in Bangalore, I would not be in such a dilemma...but this is in Hyderabad (which is in another state). I only spoke to my future team leader over the phone. He sounded very convincing and passionate about the job. I've no idea of the place, the company or even the people there. During the training I'll get a stipend of 5000 rupees. I've to stay in a PG...I've to take care of my stay, food and all the needs. And I dunno whether I've to go...for such small stipend and possibility of high learning.

I'm wondering whether to join Dell and do some course in the meantime..and start looking for job actively with better qualification after that

OR

Join First Security, learn to live away from my parents and gain experience in my core field..

Please Help!

Genesis: Religion Vs Science

Today after the first hour, we had like 4 hrs gap before the next hour starts. So some of us (around 6) stayed back in class. And as we were talking, for some reason, big bang theory came into the discussion...Sushi asked me whether I believe in big bang theory...I said 'yeah, I do'...And he was like, 'you do?!' I was like 'yeah!'. Then Jerryn asked...'you believe in evolution or creation?' :|

Off ho! Now I'm at fix!

I always kept science and religion separate. I believed in God and his creations...but I also believed in science and evolution. I have never tried to inter-relate these two. Now, I'm so totally at fix! Science or religion? What's the connection? What's the explanation?

And these guys were fairly surprised I did not think about this before because I'm very good at arguing...even if it's a silly stuffs, even if the entire world stands against me with a silly stuffs, I argue till the last breath of logic.
Sushi was like, 'I have seen how deep you can go when you think...and why don't you think about things that matter rather than crap!'

Right now, I don't have any answers to big bang theory and Genesis...but hopefully some logical explanations will spark some thinking...

I just love Naruto!

I haven't started watching Shippuden yet but whatever I'm seeing...I'm just loving it.

I'm currently watching Retrieving Sasuke. Things happening are just awesome. I have never been pleased by anyone's entry as much as I did Gaara's...and his changed personality makes me respect Naruto so much.
Sasuke is fool, I don't like him much.

And the best thing about watching Naruto is, it shows you how important being you can be. Every character has a story and every character has a purpose in life...it knocks a person like me who is wandering aimlessly with no purpose in life.

Sunday Spotlight

Deccan herald featured a full page on Nano and related. I'm posting all their links also with the story undercut (just in case...). The fifth one is a general write up on Nano (Thanks to argentla for sharing the link. :))

1.
NANO: Dream on wheels

Suddenly, everybody is talking about “Nano,” the People’s Car. Though it was four years in the making, it was one of the best kept secrets. Secrecy led to more curiosity and curiosity built up expectations. And, of course, cynicism. Some sniggered that it could be an auto on four wheels, while most didn’t believe that a decent car could be offered for Rs 1 lakh. When Tata Groups chairman Ratan Tata finally unveiled his cute little car last week, saying “a promise is a promise,” he literally stunned the world.

Ever since, the world has not stopped gushing about the Nano.

The launching of Nano undoubtedly represents an important landmark in the canvas of global auto industry in general and Indian industry in particular. In a true sense, Nano has given a new dimension to the dynamics of auto industry not only in the domestic arena but also at the global level.

Such is its perceived impact that virtually all car manufacturers in India and abroad will increasingly face the challenge of how to make a low-cost, but at the same time fuel-efficient, compact car—the most lucrative and high potential segment of auto market across the globe.

Many believe Nano could transform the auto industry, forcing manufacturers to lower prices and perhaps find cheaper ways to sell cars than in sprawling showrooms.

Analysts overwhelmingly feel that for millions and millions of people in the developing world, Rs 1 lakh car (US $ 2,500) —considered to be world’s cheapest car-- may yield a transportation revolution as big as Henry Ford’s Model T, which hit the market exactly 100 years ago.

Though technology has obviously advanced and Nano beats Model T on every parameter of performance, additionally it is the cost factor where the Tatas score. Model T cost 850 dollars when it debuted in 1908, comparable to about 19,000 dollars in 2006, according to an aggregate of Consumer Price Index figures.

Now the million dollar question is: How could Tata manage to produce a four-door, fuel-efficient car at such a low price?

They could achieve the feat -- which was considered impossible by many -- by doggedly pursuing the objective of evolving innovative designing and engineering skills. A team of young engineers headed by Girish Wagh worked day and night over four years to develop the design. As Ratan Tata says “It is a tribute to the young engineers who have worked four years on the vehicle that they have been able to achieve what most car companies internationally and, of course, domestically, have said could not be done….Indian engineers, given the right challenges and leadership, can out-innovate and out-engineer others”.

As Tata explains, costs were kept low by cutting the “size of the package”, which brought about a reduction in material but at the same time maintaining qualitative efficiency.

It is not that only engineers of Tata Motors have worked for developing the prototype of Nano, but various component manufacturers. As Girish Wagh, who headed the design team, explains “nearly 100 vendors worked in unison with us to develop Nano. They have no doubt applied innovative technology to develop these components.”

For instance Bosch applied innovative technology to develop multi-point fuel injection system—a vital component for any car—at a low cost while maintaining quality.

Tata Motors has virtually mandated the vendors to make components at one third cost of the conventional manufacturing cost without compromising the quality. And finally they did it. About the engine of Nano, Wagh says “this is the first time that a two-cylinder gasoline engine is being used in a car with single balancer shaft.”
The lean design strategy has helped minimise weight, which helps maximise performance per unit of energy consumed and delivers high fuel efficiency. “It is the innovation in technology which helped us developing Nano. In fact, we have 33 patents for new technology that we have applied in creating Nano” Wagh says.

It is not that in pursuit of making a low cost car Tata Motors has ignored the vital aspect of safety and emission norms. Tata has made it clear that Nano would meet all safety and emission norms – now in vogue as well as in future. The car has also gone through a full frontal crash test and side crash test as per standard norms. Nano would meet Bharat Stage-III emission norms and can also meet the stringent Euro Four, Tata has said.

Holding price
But, how long will the Tata Motors be able to hold the price line?

The fact is that despite technological innovation Tata Motors has found it difficult to cap the cost of Nano at Rs1 lakh. Tata himself has indirectly admitted so. Nano is expected to hit the market some time in second half of 2008-09. That means buyers will have to wait at least for eight months. Going by the rising cost of inputs, the ex-factory price of the car may go up when it finally reaches the consumer.

Only time will tell how long Tata could confine the cost Rs 1 lakh. By the sheer volume of production ,Tata would hope to maintain some margin of profit. It plans to make 2.5 lakh units of Nano per annum, which will increased to 3.5 lakh units.

Besides, Tata Motors plans to make more variants of Nano with additional features like AC and music system as per customers’ specifications, which will fetch more money for the company. Thye also plan to export various variants of Nano to different countries.

The strategy is simple: While maintaining a low price of Nano at the lowest possible entry level, Tata Motors will enhance profit margin by selling upgraded variants of Nano for such people who will not mind spending a little more for having a decked up Nano with additional features.

All said and done, Tata is already a winner. He has earned the name for himself as the man who made a “revolution in car making.” For millions of middle-class families, he is the new icon who’s making their dream of having a car of their own possible.

Tata has created something that has never existed before: The utility of a car with the affordability of a two-wheeler.

The Nano effect
World’s two largest automakers, General Motors Corp and Toyota Motor Corp, are now working on ultra cheap cars to sell in emerging markets

Whether they can match Tata’s price remains to be seen

GM has bolstered its engineering staff in India to around 1,000 and also has been working on a low-cost car in other parts of the world

GM’s Chinese mini-vehicle joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co, already is building a car that sells for around US $ 3,500

The cheapest new car currently sold in the US is a version of the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo at US $ 9,995.

2. Singur: Many hurdles at Nano's cradle

The veil on Nano, the People's Car, is finally off; given the tumultuous welcome accompanied by a media blitz the unveiling has received, expectations from the car have already sky-rocketted...

But Singur, the proposed birthplace and cradle of the new-born in Hoogly district of West Bengal, is yet to feel the ‘heat’ of the ‘sun rise’ in the East.
Blame it on nature, political opposition and the latest opposition from within -- the project work has periodically suffered bouts of suspension, throwing targets to go haywire. Questions are now being raised in various quarters including top honchos in the auto industry as to whether Tata Motors, in the wake of this unprecedented publicity blitzkreig on the Rs1 lakh car, could succeed in sticking to the schedule and roll out the first Nano either by the middle of this year or latest by 2008 end. There could be many a skid, some feel, between the unveiling and the actual rollout.

If an unprecedented monsoon deluge turned the entire 937-acre project area into a vast sheet of water and at several places, the water level stood at 6ft deep, prolonged agitation by the Trinamool Congress-backed Save Farmland Committee has taken a toll on the work schedule. Officials engaged at the site at Singur, are not too sure whether the plant would be up and running.

“There is so much to do. We also need to maintain quality as it will be a world class plant,” an enginer on site says.

Waterlogging abnormally delayed the basic infrastructure work, necessitating vacuum dewatering of the weld shop; in fact, still a lot remains to be done at the press shop, paint shop and the engine shop. Work of preparing the floor of trim chassis fitment shop nearly at the centre of the plant is barely 10 per cent complete. Other priority jobs on the list include network of pipelines, water tank, an effluent treatment plant, the administrative buildings and the critical of all, 22 km of internal roads.

Despite all this, nothing can prevent waterlogging this monsoon as well, engineers apprehend and they are now looking up to the state government for undertaking a Rs 170 crore project for digging a canal to drain the rain water.

After the nature's frown came the latest one from the CITU, the trade union arm of the ruling CPI(M) in Bengal. Hours before Ratan Tata unveiled Nano at the Auto Expo in New Delhi, work came to a halt at Singur after some security guards belonging to the union resorted to a blockade of the plant as they had been fired from the services by the state-run West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation. The blockade that began as a mark of protest, snowballed into a major agitation after the authorities informed the guards, mostly local youths numbering about 700, that barely half of them would be retained.

“About 700 villagers who lost their agricultural jobs following acquisition of land, found some employment as the WBIDC gave them temporary job of guards. It will be extremely difficult for them to manage if they lose their source of income now,” a local CPM leader said. The CPM state secretary and Politburo member Biman Bose also sympathised with the retrenched guards and advised the state government to find some alternative jobs for them.

As the CITU blockade continued for couple of days, Opposition Trinamool and Narmada Bachao Andolan activist Medha Patkar seized the opportunity to lambast both the state government and Tatas for giving false promises to the locals about jobs, rehabilitation packages and alternative means of livelihood.

However, opposition or no opposition, the roll out of Nano has shaken the state government and vendors alike. Tata Motors too announced some plans to benefit the locals. A batch of 311 residents of Singur has been undergoing either six-month or nine-month training programmes since May 2007 at various Industrial Training Institutes of Bengal.

Successful candidates will then undergo further 15 months’ hands-on training at Tata Motors' facilities. On completion, the trainees are expected to take the trade tests to qualify for trade certificates issued by the National Council for Vocational Training and become eligible for employment.

To provide further boost to the local economy, the government has come out with various facilities for the vendors who are setting up shop at Singur. “Since Bengal has received no investment in the auto
industry for the last 60 years, the Singur factory is a do-or-die proposition for us and we’ll go all out to make it happen," claimed the state industries minister Nirupam Sen. Seven or eight months presently stand between the reality and dream of Sen as also that of Ratan Tata.

3. Why blame Tata for pollution threat?

The tiny Nano may or may not pose a big threat to the environment. The experts, however, are not blaming Ratan Tata.

Instead they are charging the government for its failure in improving the public transport system in the cities, which has compelled people to increasingly use private vehicles.

The attacks began even before the vehicle’s launch with the chairman of UN intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) R K Pachauri expressing his concerns about Nano’s potential in polluting the air by enormously increasing the number of cars on the roads.

Tata differed. He brushed aside the worst case scenario painted by the greens lobby. “I am not sure whether our vehicles will create an absolute chaos on the road,” Tata said, adding that Nano meets the Euro-IV and Bharat-III emission norms.

At the moment Euro-IV norms are required only for export market because according to the auto-fuel policy, 11 big cities including Bangalore have to implement Euro-IV from 2010 while the rest of the country should follow Eu-III.

This gives another two years to the nation to continue with an older emission norm. Most of the country – the target market for Nano – can continue with Euro-II for another two years. Since the pollution level in Euro-II is roughly 40 per cent more than Euro-III, if Tata Motors roll out Euro-II cars for smaller towns and rural areas, it will add significantly to the pollution load.

The company plans to come out with a diesel model, which will definitely contribute to air pollution simply because the sulphur content in diesel available in most of the country – except those 11 cities – is around 500 parts per million.

Sulphur content in European diesel is only 10 ppm and still cities like Stuttgart and Munich have been dragged to the court for allowing diesel vehicles to ply on the road.

“One should not blame any Tata car as it is people’s aspirations to own a car are associated with it. Why pick on a single car when the problem lies is the lack reliable public transport system,” said former ambassador and TERI distinguished fellow Chandrsekhar Dasgupta who was a member of the Indian delegation at the Bali climate change summit.

Currently, the share of buses in public transportation has dwindled from 11 per cent in the 1950s to mere 1.1 per cent in 2007.

“In Delhi, personal vehicles – cars and two-wheelers – use up more than 75 per cent of road space but meet only 20 per cent of the commuting demand. In comparison, buses use less than five per cent of the road space and meet more than 60 per cent of travel demand,” says Anumita Roychoudhury, from the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).

Since 1951, while the urban population has increased by 4.6 times, vehicle numbers have increased 158 times. As a result, cities are struggling to keep pace with infrastructure demands. Delhi is a good example as it can end up losing all the gains of its CNG conversion because of the exponential growth of private vehicles.

4. It's a modern car at low cost

The Tata Nano makes global history for Tata Motors, for the Indian industry and for the global auto industry. Until now no country in the world has been able to produce such a complete modern car at such a low cost.

When Tata Motors launched the Indica 10 years ago it was the first Indian car to break out of the grip of foreign technologies. Now an Indian auto technology leads the world. Many earlier “people’s cars” like the Volkswagen Beetle, Fiat 500 and the 425 cc Citroen 2CV had been huge global successes until they became technologically obsolete.

For easy comparison, the stylishly designed Nano is 20 cm shorter than the Maruti 800 but 20 cm taller and 6 cm wider. So it will comfortably seat four large adults and be easier to park. It will also weigh 100 kg less so the 623 cc 33 bhp petrol engine will have to do less work than the 39 bhp of the old M-800 but with modern electronic sensors of the multi point fuel injection, instead of the old carburetor, it will be able to deliver enough stable power for an air-conditioner (on the deluxe model) and for driving on mountain roads.

With a rear engine and transmission there will be less weight in front so power steering will not be necessary. The engine will certainly be fuel efficient and the 20 Kmpl as claimed seems realistic. It will meet international crash test safety norms. But it will have very little boot space and with a maximum claimed speed of 104 kmph it will not really be fast enough for highway travel. Essentially, it will be a complete car for commuting in towns and villages.

India’s frugal manufacturing costs have already attracted Hyundai, Suzuki, Ford and Renault to make India a base for part of their global manufacture. The Nano's frugal costs are also the result of innovative product and production technologies as well as astute business management. About 70 per cent of all cars are made by their component makers so the Nano is the product of joint innovations by them all. The body is all steel but many parts have been slimmed down and accessories minimised. Every supplier has had to shave weight, add
value and contain costs. Bosch, for example, has created a totally new fuel injection system with one injector feeding the two cylinders turn by turn with precise electronic controls.

Costs were also contained by going immediately to a very large scale production of 2,50,000 units a year going up to a peak production of 10,00,000 and requiring that their main component makers set up their plants at their tax haven site in Singur. These enable fast and efficient deliveries and eliminates many taxes and inter state taxes on the car and its components.

At a price of nearly half the Maruti 800 but three times the price of an average motorcycle it will create a new market niche. It may attract some 5 per cent of the 7 million annual buyers of 2-wheelers and define a new entry level for cars. Bigger cars will remain unaffected and motorcycles and scooters will continue to sell. India bought 1.2 million cars last year and the Nano will probably raise the demand to about 1.6 million now and 2 million when the production is ramped up. There are already about 12 million cars, 50 million 2 and 3- wheelers and 6 million buses and trucks on the Indian roads. 250,000 new Nano's will add about 0.4% to these traffic numbers in the first year… not as much as many people fear.

Every automobile causes pollution but vehicular pollution is estimated to contribute to less than 30 per cent of CO2 build up. Ratan Tata has claimed that the Nano will meet Euro IV standards and emit fewer pollutants than a modern motorcycle. All new vehicles are however 74 to 82 per cent less polluting than vehicles made six years ago. So the government must remove the polluting older vehicles.

Many countries want a low cost modern commuting car and we can be certain that we will soon see the Nano in many foreign markets. But it will have to first prove itself in its home country where some inevitable initial problems will be easier to correct. With large volume demand we can expect local manufacture in several countries as well as sale through the huge network of Fiat with whom Tata Motors have an alliance.

Urban India is rapidly getting more affluent. If India's overall GDP growth rate is 8.5% and agricultural growth rate is just 2.4% the annual income growth is over 12% in urban India. India has a hot, dusty or wet
climate and deserves something better than bicycles and bad buses. People deserve personal cars and roads to drive them on. Surprisingly the density of traffic on Indian roads is much less than in most countries and the roughly 200 million people who are carried daily on 50 million 2 and 3-wheelers, 12 million cars and 3 million buses are too important for any Government to ignore. It must take urgent steps to improving city roads and parking places.

5. Mark Wan's write on Nano (and few others).

You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.
Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia.
Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.
You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are balanced, orderly, and organized. You like your ducks in a row.
You are powerful and competent, especially in the workplace.
People can see you as stubborn and headstrong. You definitely have a dominant personality.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.
You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.
You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated.
You master any and all skills easily. You don't have to work hard for what you want.
You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you'll knock down anyone who gets in your way!

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.
You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.
You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are very charming... dangerously so. You have the potential to break a lot of hearts.
You know how what you want, how to get it, and that you will get it.
You have the power to rule the world. Let's hope you're a benevolent dictator!

What's Your Name's Hidden Meaning?

You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.

I veto this completly.

And this:
You are very charming... dangerously so. You have the potential to break a lot of hearts.

no votes!

The rest, I need someone who knows me well to rate.
You think the state will be normal until the next election?

You think I'm stupid because I think politics is stupid? Just try a peek a boo into Karnataka state(of which Bangalore is the capital) politics.
We had 3 chief ministers in a tenure where only one should have been. The latest best is, our last chief minister was chief minister only for a week(resigned yesterday) putting the state back into Prez rule for a second time in a year!
All this because of a bloody big political game played by Deve Gowda. (His record: Chief minister for ~1year, when the normal tenure is for 5years!)
Now I got voting rights(should get the ID though); I will make sure that I don't vote for any players like him who take power for granted, to be our leader.

NOD 32 the culprit?

I installed a new antivirus software 'NOD32' and *drum rolls* some extention file of winzip and road rash is gone and hence is refusing to work. I don't know how to get back the extention file...and I don't like hearing music in Window's media player.

font-weight:bold;" align="left" valign="middle">Your innocent and gentle nature is what makes you such an attractive person. You prefer places that are peaceful and bright where you can enjoy the beauty of the things around you. When it comes to being social you're a little uneasy, but with your sweet curious nature you tend to come out of woods. People just can't resist your adorable and polite personality.

Your Animal Form is the Swan.

Intelligence and grace are your strongest qualities. You feel most comfortable in areas that test your knowledge and wisdom. Your presence gives a sense of such exquisite elegance that people are easily intrigued by you. You have many friends, but you are closer to those of equal interest in scholarly discussions. People are quite beguiled by a refined and astute person like you.

Your Animal Form is the Dolphin.

Very fun and refreshing, you're like a breath of fresh air. The places you enjoy are ones where everyone can participate and have a good time. Friends are not a problem for you at all with your electric personality, you just have that ability to bring people to you without even trying to. An energizing person like you is just what people need to feel like they can do anything and have fun doing it.

Your Animal Form is the Butterfly.

Your ability to change and see things that others can't is something to be admired. You don't really like to get into the social circle just yet, and like to be in places that are somewhat quiet. Although you may be shy, you can in fact become quite the social butterfly. You have a unique and distinct personality that makes people appreciate and respect that more than you think.

Your Animal Form is the Cat.

Your independent and intense nature mesmerize people. You are attracted to the darker regions and subjects of life and have no problem with being by yourself. Although you may or may not have many friends, the few that do know you find your mysterious attitude to have an alluring effect.

Your Animal Form is the Fox.

Your cunningness and charisma make you quite an amusing person to be around. You can actually go anywhere as long as it has something that interests you in some way, or that you can gain out of it. Your friends love how clever and witty you can be when in conversation. A sharp and quick-witted mind can get a lot of people to notice you in some way.

Your Animal Form is the Peacock.

Your sense of dignity and pomp make you stand out of the crowd. You love being in places where you are the center of the attention, and you get a real kick out of being a crowd pleaser. Friends flock to you as you display yourself so proudly. Your boisterous and dignified personality really presence itself when you make an entrance into the room.

Your Animal Form is the Wolf.

Noble and trustworthiness are characteristics that make you a beautiful person. You like places that are either calming to you or family oriented. It takes time to warm up to you, but once people become your friends you automatically are protective and caring. There isn't anything you wouldn't do for them, even if it requires some sacrifice. Your valor and sense of honorable duty make you someone that is truly worth being around.

This Fun Quiz created by Patricia at BlogQuiz.Net

Awesome car videos at Car-Videos.Biz
